Planning & Preparations

Get a head start on the planning and the fun
Senior year is a very different experience than any year of schooling thus far. Seniors can find themselves involved in many new activities and events. Parents often have trouble keeping up with their senior’s schedules. Though it is exciting, it can also be quite chaotic.

Thankfully, with just a little planning and preparation chaos can be easily turned to fun. This section outlines a variety of planning ideas. Start with these general concepts…

Checklist for a super senior year
Your senior will be involved in a great deal of new and exciting activities. It can be a lot to keep track of.

A senior experience that meets your family budget
Along with the new activities and events comes the expense. But senior year does not have to break your family budget.

Take family time before it all begins
The final days of summer are a great opportunity for your family to connect before the excitement begins. Plan to spend some family time before school starts in the fall. This may be your last chance to plan an out-of-town family visit. Since many seniors really like spending time with friends, maybe you can invite one of their friends along.

Consider these other fun options:

  • Offer to take your senior and a friend out to dinner at their favorite restaurant
  • Let the seniors take over the kitchen for a fun theme dinner party
  • Play a round of golf (or mini-golf)
  • Go shopping someplace special
  • Spend a few nights at a local resort with the whole family
  • Check out last minute cyber fares with the airlines for an impromptu trip
  • Go to a water park
  • Spend the day at the lake or river
  • Go through grade school and high school papers and old photographs together. Reminisce about the memories. Start a scrapbook and keep it going during the year.
