Minneapolis - Nov 10, 2010

The University of South Carolina’s 2010 baseball team received their National Championship rings on Saturday, November 6 in Columbia, South Carolina. The championship rings were delivered by Jostens’ Denton, Texas fine jewelry plant to Columbia in time for the team to be honored at halftime of the South Carolina-Arkansas football game at Williams-Brice Stadium.

“The championship ring is a unique and incredible reminder of what our team accomplished during the 2010 season and is a symbol of their hard work and commitment,” said University of South Carolina baseball coach, Ray Tanner. “We appreciate the great work Jostens put into designing and making this ring and how they were able to capture our team’s accomplishments during the 2010 season.”

Creating the designs for the NCAA championship ring began in Columbia after the team’s extra inning victory over the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in the College World Series championship game in Omaha, Nebraska. Jostens championship ring team met with Kyle Lipsey, Director of Baseball Operations, University of South Carolina, to review the season and collaborate on a ring design fitting for the 2010 champions and South Carolina’s 1st NCAA baseball championship.

“Our team was thrilled to work with the University of South Carolina and Coach Ray Tanner. We were inspired to create a championship ring experience that captures the passion and tradition of South Carolina and recognizes the team’s championship achievement,” said Chris Poitras, Director, Sports Marketing and Development, Jostens. “The rings are remarkable and truly fitting for the University’s 1st NCAA baseball championship.”

The design effort focused on delivering great looking rings, reflecting the story of the season and South Carolina’s historic achievements. The top of each National Championship ring has a studded “SC” over a baseball diamond with a stone representing each base and is set on a faceted garnet stone. One side of the championship ring has the player’s last name at the top, the 2010 College World Series 2010 MEN’S logo, and at the bottom the players’ number. The other side of the ring says 1ST IN SCHOOL HISTORY, lists the team’s final 2010 record (54-16), and includes the logo for Rosenblatt Stadium, the historic stadium at which South Carolina won the final College World Series.

The ring was presented to players and coaches in an ebony box with a red and silver “SC” on the top. The inside of the box has an image of Rosenblatt Stadium and has a personalized plate with the player’s or coach’s name and number.

Jostens designs championship rings and trophies for numerous collegiate sports championships.
