Minneapolis, Minn. - Feb 13, 2017

Jostens, the leading provider of publications, jewelry and consumer goods serving the K-12 and college market, today announced that 18 of it schools have been named finalists for the 2016 Yearbook Pacemaker competition.

The National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) awards the title of Yearbook Pacemaker, and has recognized 70 total finalists for the 2016 competition. The Pacemaker finalists will be recognized and the Pacemaker winners will be announced at the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in Seattle April 6-9.

"The Pacemaker is the association’s preeminent award and is often called the Pulitzer Prize of scholastic journalism," said Laura Widmer, NSPA executive director.

Each of the 420 yearbook submissions was analyzed and discussed by a team of judges and assigned to one of four different page-count categories, with a separate category dedicated to junior high and middle schools.

The judges focused on written, photo and design quality, as well as whether yearbooks engaged their student readers through extensive and inclusive reporting.
