Jostens, Medal of Honor Foundation to host African American recipient
Vietnam veteran will speak at local training Feb. 28, last day of Black History Month
Minneapolis, Minn. - Feb 28, 2017

Jostens, the leading provider of publications, jewelry and consumer goods serving the K-12, college and professional sports markets, today announced it will partner with the Congressional Medal of Honor (CMOH) Foundation to host an African American CMOH recipient who will speak to local educators attending a special character development training as part of Black History Month.

Melvin Morris, who was awarded the CMOH by President Barack Obama on March 18, 2014, received the honor for his valorous actions on Sept. 17, 1969, while commanding the Third Company, Third Battalion of the IV Mobile Strike Force near Chi Lang, Vietnam. The then staff sergeant led an advance across enemy lines to recover the body of a fallen sergeant, single-handedly destroying an enemy force with a bag of grenades in a series of bunkers that was pinning his battalion down. Morris was shot three times during the engagement.

Morris is scheduled to speak 11 a.m. at SocialVenture Woodlawn, Conference Room 4, during a CMOH Character Development Educator Training Workshop. Jostens Renaissance Education supports these trainings nationwide, as part of its mission to improve climate and culture in schools.

About the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation

The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation (CMOH) was founded by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society to perpetuate the legacy of the Medal of Honor. The Foundation is an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit with Tax ID #25-1828488. Its role through the legacy of the Medal of Honor, and the example of the recipients, is to inspire successive generations of Americans to commit to the ideals of courage, sacrifice and patriotism – in a lifetime of service above self to family, to community and to our nation. There are no better ambassadors to take this message to the American people than the Medal of Honor recipients themselves who embody these values through their incredible acts of bravery.
