A lot goes into creating a great yearbook. One item that is commonly overlooked is backgrounds! The right background can really pull your page together or make for a dramatic look, but the wrong background can be overpowering.
Here are some things to keep in mind when choosing a yearbook page background:
- Is it too busy? – A really busy background can make it hard to focus on the photos, which should be the main element on your page.
- Does it work with your font color? – Keep in mind that a dark or busy background can make it really hard to read a dark font. If you're set on a dark background, try changing your font color so it will stand out. Also, thin fonts are hard to read on a busy background.
- Will it make sense? – Remember that once all your photos and text are placed on the page, your background may not show much at all.
- Take it to the edge – If you don’t want a white border around your pages, make sure the background goes all the way past the edge of your page.
It’s not just page backgrounds that are important! Make sure to do a quick "background check" when snapping posed photos for the yearbook as well. Look for things like random people in the background or posts/signs that could be distracting or look like they are coming out of someone’s head.
With just a little bit of extra planning, you will have amazing yearbook pages to show.
