EVERYDAY HEROES:
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE MOH CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

What makes a hero? Medal of Honor recipients believe the values of courage, commitment, integrity, sacrifice, citizenship and patriotism are the qualities of a hero, and they also recognize those qualities in every one of us. The Medal of Honor Character Development Program (CDP) uses powerful and relatable stories of military and civilian heroes to help your students recognize these values in themselves. Jostens Renaissance partners with the CMOH Foundation to bring training on using this resource to schools across the country, and we are proud to partner with them to bring these resources to you as well. This Renaissance Kit provides an introduction to the curriculum as well as several visual reminders of the values that form the foundation of the program.

Character Development Program Thumb Drive (1)
This thumb drive contains the full CDP Curriculum, with video vignettes featuring many of the recipients, as well as lesson plans and activities for relating the lessons to your current class topics. All videos and lesson plans are also available at themedalofhonor.com.

Everyday Heroes Introduction Booklet (20)
This booklet offers an overview of the curriculum, three lessons from the curriculum kit, and one exclusive lesson being provided here for the first time, all to be used with videos from the thumb drive. Click here to download the PDF.

Be a Hero Every Day Poster (5)
This poster will be a visual reminder to students to reflect on heroic values and how they can live by these values in their everyday interactions and choices. Additional posters are available at JostensRenaissance.com/store.

Everyday Hero Dog Tags (5)
Recognize your students and staffulty who have gone above and beyond expectations. Give these at a Renaissance pep rally, or have Renaissance teachers present them to their most giving students.

Elementary Lessons Bookmarks (20)
The CDP has been so impactful for high school and older middle school students that the CMOH Foundation has now developed a series of elementary level lessons. Ask your teachers to give this bookmark to elementary teachers in their networks to help promote these compelling resources.

Choosing Courage Book (1)
How does an ordinary person become a hero? Perfect for your school library or guidance office, these stories about both soldiers and citizens who made courageous choices will help students understand that we all have this power within us. For additional copies, contact info@cmohedu.org.

Character Quote Cards (50 each of 6 cards)
There could be many ways to use these inspirational cards, each of which features a quote about character from a Medal of Honor recipient. Have teachers write a note on the back to students who exemplify these values and give them as recognition. Deal them out to a classroom as a way of organizing them into groups. If a student collects several, allow them to be redeemed for a reward.

One-Minute Message for Administrators
As students find their way through adolescence, they are searching for adults who demonstrate possible versions of their potential goals and future. With the lessons here and the living histories at themedalofhonor.com, your students will discover not just heroes but role models, people they will not only look up to but emulate. The goal of this kit is to help all students recognize heroic values within themselves. The Medal of Honor and Citizen Hero stories will inspire them to turn those values into behaviors that improve school and community climate and culture across the country.
